ECA Encourage a Risk-Based Approach to Portable Appliance Testing

The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) has raised concerns over the recent change to HSE guidelines, which they worry may lead to businesses relaxing in their approach to workplace safety.

Their concern is that the new guidelines may result in businesses no longer maintaining electrical safety and inspection, or getting the necessary training/equipment to ensure safety.

Workplace Fatalities Plateau Over Last Two Years

The British Safety Council has raised concerns that the workplace death decrease has stalled over the last two years. Health & Safety Executive statistics show that in 2011/12 there were 173 deaths and roughly the same in 2010/11, compared to the much lower 147 in 2009/10.
